The External Communications Manager will be responsible for social media, media relations and marketing operational communications, as well as partnering with human resources for recruitment marketing.


  • Manage social media strategy, channels, content, calendar, and engagement (organic and paid), and partners with marketing colleagues to execute campaigns that generate awareness of the WSMM brand, priorities, and demand generation. Partners with operations on social media measurement and optimization. 
  • Develop and execute proactive media relations strategy and content that results in strategic coverage to support the brand and demand generation. Develop press releases in partnership with key functions (investor relations, M&A, key accounts, product management) for newsworthy announcements. 
  • Partner with HR leadership on talent marketing strategy and execution to drive recruitment objectives and position WSMM as a great place to work.  
  • Partner with stakeholders to drive operational communications such as M&A messages to customers or business initiatives that affect external audiences. 
  • Drive agency partnerships and performance in the areas of social media and media relations. 
  • Build out crisis communications strategy/processes. Coach / train leaders for media opportunities (proactive and in crisis communications) and serve as spokesperson when appropriate.


Required Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Digital Marketing, Public Relations, Public Affairs or related. 5-8 years of experience in social media marketing and media relations. 

Required Skills and Abilities: 

  • Results oriented; drive and desire to build a commercial (marketing, sales, sales enablement) career; Time management skills; Experience owning social media strategy and execution (paid and organic) and working in platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook; Experience in proactive media relations and crisis communications; Strong writing and content creation skills.  Exceptional verbal communications skills.  Ability to navigate through complex, time sensitive/fast paced situations.  Experience effectively working in a matrixed organization.  Growth mindset.
