Position Summary

This role will be part of a talented team of engineers that demonstrate superb technical competency, delivering mission critical infrastructure and ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance, and security. In-depth knowledge and experience are required across multiple technology disciplines with the ability to define, support, and enhance IT infrastructure and associated services in alignment with IT strategy and business objectives.

A direct report to the Director of IT Engineering, the IT Database Engineer is responsible for 

Essential Functions: Responsibilities of the IT Database Engineer include but are not limited to:

  • Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL, Postgres, Hana, SSIS (ETL), SSRS, Snowflake, Informatica (EL), Wherescape (T), Tableau (Data visualization), Webi (Business Objects reporting tool)
  • Database administrative duties such as, Usernames/Permissions, Index maintenance, DB Backups/Restores, promote code updates in DB environments, update DB environments, incremental patching, major DB upgrades and migrations 
  • Review DB object code
  • Review and recommend best Data Governance strategy
  • Work closely with Business Intelligence team to monitor and ensure correct operation of ETL processes
  • Work closely with SAP team and gather understanding of SAP data structures
  • Have a solid understanding of application schemas to assist Business Analysts in developing reports
  • Assist/interact with application teams implementing and maintaining data components of new and existing solutions
  • Work closely with applications and infrastructure teams on various projects/initiatives 
  • Part of 24/7 on call rotation 
  • Evaluate and recommend new and emerging products and technologies  
  • Stays abreast of emerging technologies and capabilities

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Minimum 5 years related experience in functional area
  • Solid understanding and working competency of at least 3 of the following: 
    • ODBC connectivity
    • SQL operations 
    • Relational DB concepts
    • NoSQL concepts
    • ETL processes 
  • Cloud DB concepts (Snowflake, AWS Aurora) 
  • Fundamental knowledge of Cloud best practices with a focus on DB/Security operations in AWS
  • Ability to develop with MS T-SQL 
  • Validating and implementing security best practices
  • Proficiency to code DB objects and provide consultation for DB access issues 
  • Experience with reading and developing PowerShell scripts
  • Ability to work with network attached storage such Netapp, Nimble
  • Understanding of LAN/WAN/VLAN, TCP/IP, UDP
  • Strong Troubleshooting skills 
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment 
  • Strong customer service orientation 
  • Experience supporting business development activities 
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to negotiate, influence, and collaborate to build successful relationships

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience


Abilities and Other Requirements:   The ability to perform work in a variety of work environments from a professional office environment to branch environment to customer construction sites is required.   Must be able to use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines.

To successfully perform the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, and to move about the various work environments to train, monitor and ensure compliance with all company requirements.

The employee must be able to verbally communicate with employees, co-workers, and customers in person and by phone.  The employee must also be able to travel to various work environments.  Overnight travel may be required on occasion.
