Senior Manager, Payroll

ABOUT THE JOB:
Reporting to the Director of Compensation, the Sr. Payroll Manager will oversee and manage all payroll functions for our US and Canadian operations. This leader will ensure payroll is processed on time, accurately and in compliance with all government regulations for approximately 5,000 employees (and we are growing!). The Sr. Payroll Manager will act as a subject matter expert and resource for others with regard to payroll taxes and processes and will be responsible for implementing, maintaining and reviewing payroll systems.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
- Own and manage the end-to-end US and Canadian payroll processing of garnishments, taxes, benefits, other deductions and payroll funding on a bi-weekly basis with monthly commission payments, annual bonus payments and some off-cycle payrolls.
- Provide oversight and direction for the overall payroll function to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of payroll services, driving best practices and process improvements.
- Manage payroll compliance, including internal and external audits and reconciliations, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures as well as legal standards.
- Reconcile quarterly and year-end payroll tax returns for federal, state and local taxes, as required. Researches and resolves any issues related to tax return filings, penalty notices, garnishments, timecards, etc.
- Supervise payroll staff and oversee third-party vendors involved in payroll processing.
- Act as subject matter expert and/or resources in researching/understanding new rules and tax regulations pertaining to payroll and equity awards.
- Lead or support special projects, including process documentation and improvements, system updates, integrations, upgrades or implementations
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
-Minimum 8 years of US payroll experience in multi-state and multi-entity
-Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting or Finance or relevant years of experience
-Prior supervisory experience preferred
-CPP, SAP roll experience preferred
-Canadian payroll experience a plus
-Public company experience a plus
-Proven experience in designing, implementing and continuously optimizing payroll processes and internal controls
-Advanced proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office products
-Demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet deadline
-Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
Abilities and Other Requirements: The ability to perform work in a variety of work environments from a professional office environment to branch environment to customer construction sites is required. Must be able to use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines.
In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, and to move about the various work environments to train, monitor and ensure compliance with all company requirements. The employee must be able to verbally communicate with employees, co-workers and customers in person and by phone. The employee must also be able to travel to various work environments. Overnight travel may be required on occasion.
